For the second time in the last month, a blogger in Bangladesh was violently murdered because of his writing. It is believed that Washiqur Rahman’s murder earlier this week was a retaliation for alleged “anti-Islamic” writing; the BBC reports that two seminary students have been arrested for his murder. Earlier this month, a well-known atheist blogger, Avijit Roy, was hacked to death by machete wielding assailants. Amnesty International is calling upon the Bangladeshi authorities to fully investigate and prosecute these attacks, as the failure to do so “sends a message that these barbaric actions are tolerated.”
