An Amnesty International report is accusing the Canadian mining company Ivanhoe Mines Limited of profiting and/or colluding with Myanmar authorities in serious human rights abuses.  The report details allegations of forced eviction, serious pollution and excessive police crackdowns on protest in relations to Myanmar’s copper mines.  Amnesty’s report goes into detail regarding Ivanhoe’s investments in Myanmar, specifically Ivanhoe’s knowledge that its investment would lead to mass illegal evictions, that its mines posed serious pollution risks and that Myanmar’s military was a major purchaser of copper in direct violation of sanctions.  Amnesty is calling on the Canadian and UK authorities to investigate Ivanhoe.
